About this location
Afton Street Conservation Park protects a small but ecologically significant remnant on the Maribyrnong River at Essendon West, where basalt escarpment, river frontage and native grassland survive within a heavily urbanised landscape. The site contains remnants of Victorian Volcanic Plain vegetation, including two areas of western basalt plains grassland and old river red gums, with the river corridor adding further habitat value.
