Lee Point
Birding around the north of Darwin, including the contested Binybara woodland.
Binybara (Lee Point) is a large remnant coastal landscape on Darwin’s northern fringe, extending from the beaches and tidal flats of Casuarina Coastal Reserve through tropical savanna woodland towards Muirhead. The area supports a diverse mix of coastal, migratory and woodland birds, including Gouldian finch.
The woodland south of Lee Point is also the site of a major Defence Housing Australia development, whose clearing of intact habitat has made Binybara one of Darwin’s most prominent contemporary conservation disputes.
