Braeside Park Wetlands
An early morning search for ducks - freckled, pink-eared, shovelers, all!
Braeside Park protects a varied remnant landscape of river red gum grassy woodland, heathland and open grassland within Melbourne’s south-east. Its sandy heathland is one of the largest and most intact remnants of this vegetation type in the region, while mature river red gums and associated grassy woodland add substantial habitat value for woodland birds.
The wetlands are a dominant feature of the park and the focus of much of its birdlife. Shallow open water and seasonally inundated grassy wetlands support a wide range of waterbirds and can provide a seasonal refuge for large numbers of freckled duck.
