About this location

Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) is a sandstone outlier rising above Kakadu’s savanna woodlands, with cliffs, rock shelters and pockets of monsoon forest. The stone country supports a distinctive flora and fauna, including species closely associated with the Arnhem Land escarpment such as banded fruit-dove, black wallaroo and Oenpelli rock python. It is also one of Kakadu’s most important cultural landscapes, with extensive rock art and shelters recording tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal occupation.
