About this location

Cherry Lake is a large artificial lake and wetland reserve in Altona, surrounded by open grassland and heavily managed parkland. Its western and northern margins retain coastal saltmarsh habitat used by a wide range of waterbirds, while stands of chaffy saw-sedge support the locally significant Altona skipper butterfly. The adjoining buffer wetlands and revegetated mounds also provide additional habitat along the lake’s northern edge.
