About this location

Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve protects a compact but unusually diverse stretch of Williamstown’s western foreshore, combining two wetland lakes, open grassland, saltmarsh, white mangrove (Avicennia marina) and Wader Beach beside Port Phillip Bay. The adjoining marine sanctuary contains the largest area of mangroves in Port Phillip and the only Victorian mangroves growing on a basalt coast, while intertidal flats and saltmarsh provide important feeding and roosting habitat for migratory shorebirds.
