An Easter weekend trip across Wangaratta, Shepparton and Numurkah.
Kinnairds Wetland is a 93-hectare wetland complex on the edge of Numurkah, combining a remnant seasonal river red gum swamp with constructed wetland areas added as part of the Muckatah Surface Water Management Scheme. The natural depression historically filled in winter and spring before drying through summer and autumn, while the constructed sections now help slow and filter regional drainage flows before they enter Broken Creek. River red gum woodland around the wetland provides important habitat for superb parrot, a threatened species strongly associated with the remaining woodland and roadside corridors of this heavily cleared landscape, while the wetland itself supports a diverse waterbird community.
