About this location
McKenzie River Rainforest Walk descends from dry eucalypt forest into a sheltered river valley containing a well-developed pocket of warm temperate rainforest. Along the river, a closed canopy dominated by kanooka supports dense ferns, lianas and epiphytes, creating a sharp transition from the surrounding messmate and river peppermint forest.
The reserve forms part of a larger protected forest system around the Bemm and McKenzie rivers and was specifically reserved for its lowland rainforest and high flora and fauna values.
