About this location
One Eye State Forest protects a substantial area of box-ironbark woodland west of Heathcote, with open eucalypt forest and woodland supporting a rich assemblage of dry-country birds. The forest has also been identified as important habitat for swift parrot within Victoria’s box-ironbark system. Its present landscape still carries extensive evidence of nineteenth-century gold mining and timber cutting, including old diggings, mine shafts and the heritage-listed Sawpit Gully puddlers.
