About this location

Wonga Wetlands occupies the Murray River floodplain west of Albury, combining seven interconnected lagoons with ancient river red gums and anabranches of the river system. The lagoons were constructed on former grazing land but are managed to recreate a more natural seasonal wetting-and-drying cycle, with winter inundation and summer drawdown restoring some of the floodplain processes disrupted by river regulation.
