Yellingbo NCA

About this location

Yellingbo Nature Conservation Area protects a network of wetlands, swamp forest and riparian vegetation along Woori Yallock, Cockatoo and McCrae creeks in the upper Yarra catchment. It contains the only known occurrence of the threatened sedge-rich eucalyptus camphora swamp community, dominated by mountain swamp gum, and supports around 285 native plant species and more than 170 native bird species.

The reserve is especially important as habitat for the helmeted honeyeater and the lowland population of Leadbeater’s possum, both of which have been central to long-running restoration and recovery programs at Yellingbo.
