Mulligans Flat NR
About this location
Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve protects one of the largest and most intact remaining areas of critically endangered Yellow Box–Blakely’s Red Gum grassy woodland in the ACT. Yellow box and Blakely’s red gum dominate the canopy, with native tussock grasses, herbs and scattered shrubs beneath, while fallen timber and mature hollow-bearing trees provide important structural habitat. Together with adjoining Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve, it forms a large connected woodland landscape in Canberra’s north-east.
Much of the reserve lies within Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, where predator-proof fencing and long-term ecological restoration have enabled the reintroduction of locally extinct fauna including eastern bettongs, eastern quolls and bush stone-curlews. The reserve is also a stronghold for threatened woodland species including hooded robin and golden sun moth.
