Toolangi SF
About this location
Toolangi State Forest covers about 38,000 hectares north-east of Melbourne, extending from Yarra Ranges National Park north towards Murrindindi. The forest includes extensive mountain ash stands, sheltered fern gullies, cool temperate rainforest and areas regenerating after historic fire and logging.
Around Wirrawilla, the rainforest is dominated by myrtle beech and southern sassafras, with tree ferns, mosses and fungi thriving beneath the dense canopy along Sylvia Creek. The combination of wet forest, rainforest and deeply shaded gullies provides habitat for characteristic forest fauna including superb lyrebirds.
